Glasgow was voted the City of Architecture and Design in 1999 -- and it's not hard to see why. You'll notice beautiful Victorian architecture all along the city's tree-lined streets. Plus, with fabulous art galleries and museums, Glasgow is bursting with culture.
 
What are a newcomer's first impressions of your city?
First impressions of Glasgow are usually of how friendly the people are and how quintessentially Scottish the city is. The city simply buzzes with fun, most notably from its lively pubs and bars.
 
Are these impressions likely to change?
No.
 
What is the local language?
English, although Gaelic is spoken in the north and west areas Scotland -- including the highlands and islands. In addition, Scots is spoken in the Lowlands.
 
How easily could I live in this city without knowing this language?
Its is recommended that you learn conversational English.
 
What are good things to remember in order to avoid offending the other residents of this city?
Glaswegians have a fantastic sense of humor, so it's difficult to offend. However, it is beneficial to remember that religion still plays an important part in Scottish life and you should be sensitive to friends and neighbors.

Likewise, keep in mind that there are parts of Scotland that do not accept money on a Sunday.
 
How might the local weather affect my daily life?
Scotland receives a lot of rainfall and is cool from November to April. From May to October, the warm weather arrives, along with some wonderful warm sunshine. Apart from infrequent gales and strong winds, the country does not suffer from extreme weather or natural disasters.
 
Is there anything else I should know about the overall character of your city or its people?
Glasgow has industrial roots and was previously known for its gritty feel.
