SWISS MASTERPIECES MAKE THEIR WAY TO MANILA

Swiss art exhibition 'The Abbey of St. Gall: A Cultural Center' will be displayed in Manila, the Philippines, beginning September 13, 2001.

The embassy of Switzerland in the Philippines, in cooperation with the San Agustin Museum in Manila, will present the exhibition. Running through October 1, the display of models and replicas of the Abbey of St. Gall will be stored, transported and erected in the museum under the supervision of Benjie Facto, Logistics Manager for Crown Relocations Manila. Crown Relocations is an international relocation company with extensive logistics, freight forwarding and warehousing capabilities, in the Philippines and abroad.

The Crown team will also disassemble, pack and store the display in preparation for the next leg of its journey, when it travels to Malaysia. With the recently acquired air-conditioned storage facility in Manila, Crown proved to be the ideal partner for the embassy in bringing the exhibition to the Philippines.

St. Gall is an Abbey steeped in history. Founded ca. 612 AD by an Irish monk named Gallus, the Abbey has over the centuries developed into an important center of culture, the arts and sciences. The Abbey is particularly known for its outstanding works of art, most noteably manuscripts and texts, many of which are featured in the exhibition. The Abbey, itself a composite work of baroque art, will also be featured in replica.

Having already traveled to more than 100 locations around the world, the exhibition comes to Manila from Jakarta and will next be displayed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This exhibition is brought to Manila with the support of Pro Helvetia, the Arts Council of Switzerland, the Abbey Archives of St. Gall and the Union Bank of Switzerland.
