In Thailand, most businesses are open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Although the Thais are traditionally Buddhist, they do recognize this holiday but do not celebrate it any special way. Some businesses have Christmas parties and do exchange gifts, but Thailand generally calls these "End of Year Parties." New Year’s is a big celebration with fireworks and the "count-down" to the new year with lots of parties. This is one of the busiest seasons in Thailand and many places are crowded. This is because many foreign visitors like to celebrate the end of the year in Thailand due to the pleasant temperatures and party atmosphere.
