A Dutch Christmas From a Child's Eye

At Crown Relocations, one of the most enjoyable aspects of our work is making people of all ages happy as they transfer around the world to new assignments. We know that moving is not all fun and games. Careful preparation and constant communication are crucial to the successful relocation of children.

We provide a range of tools to assist parents through the transition including a series of international Children's Guides, which are written and drawn by children living in different countries. They explore many topics and provide information about weather, customs, food, transportation and things to do, to help our younger clients adjust and settle into their new homes.

Kabir Samta, a ten year old student who attends The British School of Amsterdam, helped us prepare a new " Children's Guide to the Netherlands," which will be available in early 2007. Below is Kabir's rendition of a famous Dutch tradition and a lovely drawing of Sinterklaas.

"Sinterklass is celebrated in December. On Sinterklaas Day, he comes on his horse with his Zwarte Piet from Spain. He goes to loads of different schools, and when he comes to your school, he comes when you don't expect him. When he comes to your school, his Zwarte Piet breaks the window. Then he reads poems about children. If he reads one about you, then his Zwarte Piet gives you a handful of sweets. When you go back to your class, you find lots of gifts and everybody has one. Then his Zwarte Piet walks around the streets and gives out sweets. He stays for about a week and then he goes back to Spain."
