Pune is one of the fastest growing
cities in India. It has many nicknames such as "Queen of the
Deccan," "Pensioners’ Paradise," "Detroit’s
of India" and "IT Capital of Maharashtra." The city
has emerged as the most vibrant new metropolitan center in Western
India. It is known for having several esteemed colleges and educational
institutions, a reason why it is also called "Oxford of the
East." It is also home to many software and information technology
companies.
A city in the western Indian state
of Maharashtra, Pune is the eighth largest city in India with a
population of 4.5 million, and the second largest in the state of
Maharashtra. It is 160 Kilometers (about 100 miles) east of Mumbai
-- a three-hour drive on the spectacular Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
"Pune, being the sixth largest
metropolitan economy with the highest per capita income in India,
is a vibrant cultural city with people from multiple religions speaking
different regional languages," says Sharma. "The city’s
continuous growth and influx of investments by software and automobile
companies, has also resulted in a large influx of skilled laborers
from all over India.”
Among its more than 200 offices
worldwide, Crown has 11 Indian branches in the cities of Mumbai,
New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Ludhiana,
Vadodara, Nashik and Vishakhapatnam.
