Entry & Exit Requirements
General Instructions
Immigration check is conducted for all passengers, Indians or foreigners, both at the time of arrival and departure. The passports are duly stamped at arrival as well as departure. Passengers should be careful to see that their passports are duly stamped before leaving the immigration counter.
All passengers, Foreigners as well as Indians, coming to India or departing from India are required to fill-up Arrival Card and Departure Cards at arrival and departure respectively. The following information is required to be provided by the passengers in these cards:
- Name and Sex
- Date of Birth, Nationality
- Passport Details viz. Number, Date of Issue
- Address in India
- Occupation
- Flight Number, Date of Arrival / Date of Boarding & port of Final Destination
- Countries visited during last six days for arriving Indians
- Purpose to Visit abroad
If inadvertantly, an immigration stamp is not affixed by the counter officer at the checkpost, the passenger may immediately contact the concerned FRRO/FRO/SSP and get the same affixed on his/her passport to avoid inconvienence at the time of next travel abroad.
Information to Foreigners possesing Entry(X) Visa
Registration
- Foreigners visiting India on long term Entry(X) visa would not require registration with the concerned FRROs/FROs if , repeat if duration of his/her stay does not exceed 180 days on a single visit. In case a foreigner intends to stay for more than 180 days on a single visit he should get himself registered well before the expiry of 180 days.
- Foreigners visiting India are also required to adhere to the Special Endorsement made on the Visa by the Indian Mission.
- Every foreigner at the time of Registration, shall furnish, such information in registration report, as may be in his possession for the purpose of satisfying the Registration Officer and shall, on being required, shall sign the registration report in the presence of the said officer and shall thereupon be entitled to receive from the said officer a certificate of registration in Part III of Form A:
- Registration facilities are not provided at the airport and are carried out in the office of FRROs or District Superintendents of Police (FROs).
- Personal presence of the foreigner at the FRRO/FRO office is mandatory for visa related services
Children below 16 years of age are exempt from Registration if they have entered on Entry VISA. They may approach the concerned FRRO/FRO for registration after completion of 15 years
Penalty for Late Regisration
No fee is required to be paid for registration, but a penalty in Indian currency equivalent to US$ 30/- (Rs.1395/-) in case of late registration is charged.
Requirements at the time of Registration
Every foreigner at the time of Registration, shall furnish, such information in registration report, as may be in his possession for the purpose of satisfying the Registration Officer and shall, on being required, shall sign the registration report in the presence of the said officer and shall thereupon be entitled to receive from the said officer a certificate of registration in Part III of Form A:
The following documents are required to be submitted at the time of registration
- Registration form in triplicate (3 Copies).
- 4 Recent passport size photographs.
- Copy of passport/VISA/arrival immigration stamp.
- Copy of valid and notarised Lease/Rent agreement OR Copy of C-Form from the Hotel OR copy of recent electricity/telephone bill along with the letter from the landlord, towards proof of residence.
- Duly filled in Registration Book (Upto page 8).
- Passport in original.
Visa Extension
Foreigners who have entered India on an Entry (X) visa may approach the concerned FRRO/FRO office for a visa extension only in under mentioned cases:
- A person of Indian origin who at any time held an Indian passport OR.
- A person who either of his/her parents or grand parents or great grand parents was born in and was permanently resident in India provided neither was any time a citizen of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan or Sri Lanka or any other country that may be specified by the Government of India from time to time OR.
- A person who is the spouse of a citizen of India or a person of Indian origin covered under 1 and 2 above.
Foreign nationals holding 'X' entry visa may approach the concerned FRROs/FROs cum Superintendents of Police for extension of Entry visa with the following Documents.
Visa Extension form:
- 1 Recent passport size photographs.
- Copy of passport/VISA/Registration Book.
- Copy of valid and notarised Lease/Rent agreement OR Copy of C-Form from the Hotel OR copy of recent electricity/telephone bill along with the letter from the landlord, towards proof of residence.
- Passport in original.
- Copy of marriage certificate along with copy of Indian passport and Indemnity Bond.
- Copy of birth certificate along with copy of either parents Indian passport.
Guidelines regarding conversion of 'X'(Entry) visa of spouse of an employee on intra-company transfer into Employment Visa
Conversion of 'X'(Entry) visa of the spouse of an employee on an intra-company transfer into Employment Visa may be permitted within the country subject to fullfillment of the following conditions:
- The Applicant will have to fullfill all the conditions laid down for grant of Employment Visa.
- Conversion of 'X' Visa into Employment Visa in such cases shall be permitted only with the prior approval of Ministry of Home Affairs.
Note:
- Employment/Busines is not permitted on entry 'X' visa.
- Extension is given on year to year basis upto a maximum period of 5 years. If further extension is required, the proposal for extension is referred to Ministry of Home Affairs for approval and subsequently further extension is granted if approved by MHA.
- Exit Permission : Foreigners holding Entry Visa and who have overstayed for one year or less can seek exit permission from the concerned FRROs/FROs subject to usual checks and conditions.
