Crown Relocations Donates New Library to Remote Province in Cambodia
Crown Relocations, a worldwide leader of global mobility, domestic and international transportation of household goods, and departure and destination services, recently donated the funds for the construction of a new library in a remote province in Cambodia.
This past month, Crown's Chairman, Jim Thompson, was, again featured in the Phnom Penh Post for his large donation used to open a library in the Pursat province of Cambodia. Close to 3,000 people attended the dedication of the new library in the Phnom Kravanh district, which was appropriately named after Jim Thompson's older sister, The Hazel Joyce Library.
The new library is Jim's third philanthropic project in Cambodia. It features access to books in English and Khmer and study areas with sets of tables and chairs. The philanthropic project represents Jim's belief that education is crucial for the growth of Cambodia. The country has struggled through political and economic uncertainties for the past decades. In his speech at the dedication ceremony, Jim expressed his wish that people would take advantage of the opportunities the library offered, and through reading and learning, education could lift people out of poverty.
According to Jim in the Phnom Penh Post article, "Giving away is one of the things that's really rewarding. There are so many needs in the world, it's overwhelming—but when you begin to focus, you can really do something of lasting value for people."
