A Fine Affair in Shanghai

The fine arts team from Crown Shanghai performed exceptionally at this year’s contemporary art fair, SHContemporary08, with many of the world’s finest international galleries using Crown’s services. The fair was designed to captivate global audiences with its cultural and trendy fusion of East meets West. As the largest art fair in mainland China, it featured over 120 exhibitors from 77 galleries who displayed over 2,500 artworks.

Crown Shanghai was selected to be the official logistics provider of fine arts transportation, managing the packing and installation of the artworks. The team won praise for their professionalism, particularly during the high pressure periods, and for their internationally trained installation teams. Marcus Collins, senior corporate services manager, Crown Shanghai, noted, “Crown Fine Arts is delighted to be associated with this special event, which, through its worldwide exposure, is so important in promoting the local contemporary art scene.”

Exhibiting Andreas Gursky

Andreas Gursky is a German artist who has been recognized as one of the most famous and recognized contemporary photographers on the planet. His signature style features extra large paintings of everyday life, which average 3 meters by 1.8 meters (almost 10 by 6 feet). His works are traveling around the world for exhibitions and sale prices are breaking records–one photograph sold for more than US $2.8 million. A collection of Gursky’s photographs were shipped from Germany to Dubai to be exhibited at the Sharjah Museum of Contemporary Arab Art for three months.

The Crown Dubai team managed the customs clearance. They also greeted and escorted the two personal couriers as they arrived on the tarmac from the aircraft. The Crown team and couriers then supervised the palletization of the very large crates and the loading into the specialized truck, for delivery to the museum. There were 60 crates consisting of 85 cubic meters of volume, which weighed more than 20 tons. The team successfully handled the crates, unpacked the 70 artworks and carefully relocated them to their respective display areas, located on four floors at the Sharjah Museum. They will also store the artwork after the show and export them to their next exhibition destination.
