A Commemorative Dinner in Glasgow
In 1989, Crown acquired Scotpac International Removals, which expanded the company’s operations into the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the Middle East.
In 2009, a celebration was held in Glasgow, Scotland to mark the 20th anniversary of this major acquisition.
As a result of this acquisition, dozens of new staff members officially became part of the Crown Worldwide Group and many have recently celebrated anniversaries with the company. Two of them that attended the celebration share their thoughts here.
Joe Dunbar
Joe Dunbar received a plaque to acknowledge his 40 years of service. Joe comments, "In the early days, most of my time was spent working with very good export packers. We worked away from home a lot mostly with United States military household removals all over the UK. The company has grown so much since those days with many depots all over the world. The packing standards and material we use now help to make us the truly worldwide, professional movers that we are today.
"To all of those people who were at the commemorative dinner event and for those who were not able to attend, I would like to thank you all very much."
Norah Franchetti will enjoy her 27th anniversary in 2010 and has a unique history with Crown indeed. She was born and raised in Scotland and then moved to Hong Kong and joined Crown Hong Kong in 1983. After five years with Crown, Norah decided to relocate to London and left Crown.
Norah adds, "Some 20 years ago I had returned from living and working for Crown in Hong Kong and joined Scotpac International Removals in London. Shortly after that, I was delighted when I learnt that Jim Thompson had acquired Scotpac! Not only was I back in the Crown family but it was also a perfect fit for Crown, being that Scotpac had operations in the commonwealth countries where Crown did not, which allowed us to continue to offer door-to-door services, "Crown-to-Crown" to many more locations.
"It was a real pleasure to attend the 20th Anniversary celebration and to see so many people who are still with the company today."
