Located in the heart of London's West End and on the banks of the River Thames, the hotel is a landmark in the United Kingdom. Opened in 1889, it is still considered the place to stay in London.

From December 2007, the hotel is to benefit from a restoration programme which will upgrade the magnificent suites, guest rooms, corridors and all public areas within the hotel. The estimated cost of the programme is in excess of 100 million pounds, and the hotel is expected to re-open in 2009.

Prior to this, Bonhams auctioneers will be offering for sale contents of the hotel at an auction to be held at The Savoy from December 18-20th, 2007. Crown Worldwide will be on site during this time, arranging the transportation and shipping of all items sold.
