What are the items that I should bring with me because they’re not available (or are too expensive) where I am going?

Any legal local products that are not available in Norway should be brought in. Most products and groceries, both local and foreign, are easily available for purchase in Oslo. Clothes, electrical equipment, etc, all have reasonable prices.

What are factors that might affect my shopping habits in this country/city?

Most centers and large supermarkets are open until 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. Monday to Friday and until 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. on Saturdays. Centers are closed on Sundays. IKEA is open until 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, and until 9 p.m. on Saturday. It can be very crowded and difficult to find parking on busy days like Saturdays, in the afternoon and days before public holidays.

Grocery stores are only allowed to sell beer in Norway. Other alcoholic beverages, such as wine and stronger beverages, are sold at VINMONOPOLET, government-controlled stores. These stores offer a wide range of products. Please note that these shops have different opening hours than other shops, due to strict Norwegian alcohol laws.
