How can I legally drive a vehicle in this city?
To obtain a license, ask your local sponsor to take you to the traffic department. A test is conducted at any driving school in the city. When purchasing and registering a car, you will need to obtain insurance and registration papers from the traffic department.

Describe typical public transportation an expat might use to get around the city.
Taxis can be hailed in the street. For more convenience, call a limousine service. Trains, metro lines or buses do not exist in Qatar (except for old buses that carry migrant workers in and out of the city).

No, this will require four-wheel-drive transportation, either your own or arranged through a travel agent.

In regards to transportation, are there any safety issues I should be aware of?
You will need to be a defensive driver. In case of an accident, do not move your car; remain where you are and wait for the police to arrive. Roadside assistance in case of a breakdown is not available. You need to be well-equipped when driving out of the city.
