How are most kids transported to and from school? Public transportation, school bus and by parents' vehicle; in the Yamate area of Yokohama, many walk to the international schools nearby. When does the typical school year start and end? Most International schools run from August until June. Those geared to the Japanese school year run from April to March. Is there anything else I should know about local schools? Local Japanese education is very different from what the child may need to know upon returning to the home country or third country. If you are considering local Japanese schools, please consult with the local board of education beforehand (in Japanese).
