What are some examples of these schools?
There are several options for International schooling in Bangalore, which provide both boarding and day-boarder facilities. The more prominent ones are:

  • Indus International School (IB curriculum)
  • Canadian International School of India (Ontario, ICSE, IB curriculum)
  • Mallya Aditi International School (ICSE)
  • Bangalore International School (ICSE)

These schools are popular with Indian parents, returning Indians, non-resident Indians and expatriates. They have a fair mix of local and expat students. An average of 50% of the students in these schools is comprised of international students. The schools efficiently facilitate and support extra-curricular activities on campus or arrange to take students to other facilities for extra-curricular activities.

Is there a lot of competition for spots in local schools?
Yes. Most schools have a process for admissions, which include the application, admission test, interview with parents and the student, review of 2 - 3 years of past academic records and recommendations. This process may vary between schools

Are pre-schools also widely available (for children approx. 2 to 5 years old)?
For younger children there are some private playschools and, several of these are run according to the Montessori method. These schools vary greatly in both fees and quality. One can also get nannies (ayaahs) to care for young children.

How are most kids transported to and from school?
Most of the schools have their own school buses. These are usually air-conditioned and provide comfortable transportation for schools. Children may also be driven in your personal car.

Is there anything else I should know about local schools?
It is not very easy to get admitted to good schools as they have a long waiting period. It is recommended that parents decide on a school for their children and finalize the admissions as soon as possible in order to secure a place in the school.
