Before I get sick, what should I know about seeking medical care in your city as an expat?

Medical care in Bangkok is outstanding. Like Singapore, it offers Asia's highest standard of care, comparable to any Western country. This said, there’re some concerns that you should be aware of.

Firstly, Thailand has no General Doctors, therefore, if you and/or your loved ones who accompany you on your relocation has any particular symptom or illness, it is always best to bring health check report from home to Thailand. For those of you who come from non-native English speaking country, ensure you request a doctor to write health report in English.

Secondly, most doctors here do not have one specific place to work. They work on shifts in each medical facility. In case you need to see the doctor for more than one occasion, please organize a pre-appointment and try to go on appointment.

Last but not least, money does matter. Usually, a company will provide insurance coverage, but note that medical expense claim method can be varied depending on selected package. It is commonly found that if you are an out-patient, you will have to pay upfront for the treatment first before you can use official receipt to claim back.
