How close-knit is the expat community in this area? How do I get involved with it?
Due to Bahrain's relatively small size, the expat community is very close-knit and it is easy to meet fellow expats. The best way to meet other expats is through the various expat clubs, religious groups and sporting clubs. The most popular expat and sporting clubs are the British Club, Dilmun Club, Country Club, Bahrain Yacht Club and the Bahrain Rugby/Football Club. The Bahrain Rugby/Football Club also offers sporting activities other than rugby and football and has many family days.

Beside expat groups, what is the best way to make social connections outside of work?
A good way to meet people is to join up with the local business councils and chambers of commerce. At these events, you will meet a number of local Bahrainis, as well as expats. There are groups in Bahrain, such as the Bahrain British Business Forum, the Australian Association of Bahrain and the American Association of Bahrain that often run social events. These events can consist of wine evenings and dinners at some of Bahrain's best restaurants. The Bahrain Rotary Club also has a good mix of locals and expats.

Try sports clubs, religious groups, expat clubs and the Rotary Club. If you are invited to a private function never turn down the invitation.

Are there any unique networking opportunities for accompanying partners?
There are groups who cater to spouses/partners. They often have coffee mornings and social get-togethers. The best way to find out about these groups is through talking to other expats as they are not usually well-advertised.
