Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has burst back onto the modern global stage in a manner reminiscent of days of yore, when the ancient territories of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia were a significant regional power.

Back then, Czech King Charles IV (1316–1378), reigned supreme as King of Italy, King of the Romans and Holy Roman Emperor, earning him the deserving title, ‘Greatest Czech of All Time’.

The present day liberal democracy that characterizes the Czech Republic is a product of the passive Velvet Revolution in 1989, which saw Czechoslovakia first shrug of the vestiges of communism and, shortly after, peaceably divide into the two modern day countries Slovakia and Czech Republic.

These days, the country is a scientific hub and IT powerhouse. Not only is it the birthplace of Semtex explosives and optical contact lenses, it also boasts the highest average Internet speed and number of Internet Wi-Fi subscribers in the European Union.
