Madrid Shopping

What are the items that I should bring with me because they’re not available (or are too expensive) where I am going?
There isn't anything specifically that is in short supply. There are a couple of specialty shops that sell local brands, such as Taste of America and Britbuys, but, generally speaking, you can get everything from the main supermarkets.

Will anyone have particular trouble finding clothes that fit?
As in most places, extremely tall people will have difficulty finding clothes that fit. Also men’s shoe sizes beyond a size 45 (European sizing) are pretty tough to find.

Where can other household items (such as cleaning materials and home furnishings) be found?
Cleaning materials can be found in the supermarkets and also in “ferreterias” (hardware stores).

Home furnishings can be found in stores such as El Corte Inglés, IKEA and Habitat. There are also shopping areas almost entirely comprised of furnishing stores. The Calle Principe de Vergara has a large number of specialty stores. In San Sebastian de les Reyes, there is an industrial estate with large warehouse stores selling good-quality furniture at reasonable prices.

What are factors that might affect my shopping habits in this country/city?
The major stores now stay open all day, however, local “barrio” supermarkets may close at lunchtime for up to three hours (between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.).  Shops will generally open at 10:00 a.m. and close between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m.  In the summer (July to August), many shops are only open until 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
