How well-equipped is Manchester for those raising infants/toddlers? Specifically, are there public places to change diapers, maintained playgrounds, etc?

Manchester is a great place to raise children, with many playgrounds and lots of parkland for children to play in. In addition, there are plenty of public changing facilities available.

What are the most popular kid-friendly attractions in the area?

Chester Zoo, the largest zoo in the UK is about an hour’s drive from Manchester and is well signposted as you get near. The zoo will keep the whole family entertained for the day.

The newly opened Imperial War Museum, along with the Manchester Museum and the Manchester Museum of Transport gives an overview of the history of the city while providing activities for children.

What are the most popular activities for kids after school or on weekends?

Kids enjoy sports, art clubs, going to the cinema and visiting shopping centres to meet friends.

What's it like to be a teenager in Manchester? Are there any particular challenges I should be aware of as a parent?

As a metropolitan city, teenagers are spoilt for choice when it comes to things to do. It is a hive of activity and is renowned for its active nightlife, but while Manchester is a friendly place parents should display the usual degree of cautiousness when moving to a new city.

Are there any organizations/social groups in the area that cater exclusively to young people ages 12-17?

Most areas have youth clubs. Your local school will be able to tell you about the youth clubs in your area. There are also several Scouts and Girl Guides clubs in the Greater Manchester area for boys and girls. These groups offer adventures, amusements and activities.
