Important changes to the Alien Registration Card process in South Korea
May 23, 2014
A new regulation is in place that will effect expatriates destined for Korea.
With immediate effect, The Korea Immigration Department will now only accept an Alien Registration Card (ARC) application with a copy of a lease agreement or a three months' payment confirmation letter from a hotel in Korea.
The ARC is a post-arrival process in Korea and expatriates must apply for it within 90 days of their arrival. An ARC typically takes three weeks to process.
Since the ARC is a mandatory element of the customs clearance shipment process, delay in producing one of these documents will subsequently delay the ARC application process as well as the customs clearance process.
