Will I need to drive my own vehicle to conduct my everyday life (work/school/shopping) at my destination?
There are strict rules that govern life in Saudi Arabia; when it comes to driving, women cannot operate their own vehicles. The public transportation system is very good, however, so a bus or taxi will offer you a convenient, comfortable mode of transportation. You can also walk depending on where you live.

You will need a valid license and must be male to operate a vehicle in Saudi Arabia. You'll need to pass a test for reversing and parallel parking in order to get a Saudi license.

Describe typical public transportation an expat might use to get around the city.
There are buses or taxis available for short- and long-distance travel. The public transportation systems are not very developed in Saudi Arabia ( no Metro) and buses are dedicated to the laborers. The taxi is the principal mode of transportation in KSA for a reasonable price. Women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia.

Yes. Comfortable bus rides can get you from one major city to another.

In regards to transportation, are there any safety issues I should be aware of?
Taxi drivers will often try to avoid using their meter and then attempt to overcharge their passengers upon reaching the destination. Always ask the driver to turn on the meter immediately; if he Wear your safety belt. Drivers do not always follow road rules. If you break the rules, there could be stiff penalties.

Expats do not use major public transportation in Saudi Arabia.
