  • Started in 1925; almost 2000 students
  • Waiting list exists for most year groups so parents are encouraged to apply early for a place

Is there a lot of competition for spots in local schools?
Yes, especially in schools providing gifted programs.

Are pre-schools also widely available (for children approx. 2 to 5 years old)?
There is an abundance of preschools and childcare centers in Singapore. However, the most popular ones can have a waiting list of up to a year.

How are most kids transported to and from school?
Children take a school bus or are driven to school by parents.

When does the typical school year start and end?
International schools start the school year in September and end in June. Local schools operate from January until late November.

Is there anything else I should know about local schools?
Kids on the local school system work towards the General Certificate of Education - Ordinary Level (GCE O-level) based on the British system. Most local institutions allow expat children to enrol but availability is extremely limited as preference is given to citizens prior to permanent residents and foreigners.
