Will I need to drive my own vehicle to conduct my everyday life (work/school/shopping) at my destination?
Public transportation is excellent in Singapore, so you do not really need a car. Shopping malls are located in the city as well as in the eastern, western and northern suburbs. Most of these are equipped with supermarkets, fast food outlets and many shops selling apparel and convenience goods.

About half of the international schools are located around downtown; other schools are located in the suburbs. However, school buses have routes to all parts of the island and pickups and drop-offs can be easily arranged.

How can I legally drive a vehicle in this city?
A foreigner who plans to be in Singapore for longer than 12 months should convert his or her license to a local Singapore license. Before your conversion, you would need to hold a valid International Driver's License obtained from your country of origin.

Obtaining a license is administratively easy, as you only need to take the Basic Theory Test. An appointment for the test can be booked at the Traffic Police Headquarters.

Describe typical public transportation an expat might use to get around the city.
Subways, or MRT trains as they are called in Singapore, are extensive, clean and cheap. It may take you a little more time to figure out the bus routes, but you may find this a convenient mode of transportation depending on where you are going. Taxis are also easily available in Singapore.

Where do I buy tickets/tokens/etc. for the major public transportation?
You can obtain these tickets from the ticket booths at every MRT station and bus interchange. There are also ticket machines at the MRT stations where you can purchase single trip tickets. For buses, you can also pay by coin directly to a coin machine. You would have to verify the correct amount with the bus driver and pay the exact amount.
