Are there any vaccinations I should get or other health precautions to take as I prepare for my move to your city?
No international immunization is needed when entering South Africa or the Western Cape. The only inoculation requirement is a yellow fever vaccination certificate from travelers over one year old entering South Africa within six days of leaving an infected country. Visitors who travel through or disembark in these areas are advised to be inoculated against the disease before visiting South Africa.

Before I get sick, what should I know about seeking medical care in your city as an expat?
It is strongly advised that you have your own medical insurance in place before entering South Africa.  The government hospitals are not always up-to-date with regard to services and equipment and the service is very slow. With that said, unless you are close to death, it can take several hours before you are attended to and service is provided, based on a first-come, first-served basis. However, if you have medical insurance you may go to any private hospital and they are very efficient and up-to-date with all medical services and equipment.  Also, you get attended to much quicker than going to a government hospital.
