Leeds is known as the 'second legal centre of the UK' (after London). There are a large number of solicitors and barristers in the city. Leeds has experienced a boom in wealth and investment over the last ten years, having cheaper property and accessibility to London (combined with modern communications) which make it an attractive choice for inward investment. It has also been consistently nominated as one of the top shopping areas in the UK, and has an excellent nightlife scene with numerous restaurants and independent bars.

 

What are a newcomer's first impressions of your city?

First impressions of Leeds are that it is a cosmopolitan and well run city. It is also rich in industrial history. Council taxes are reasonable and the council is progressive in its delivery of quality public services. Leeds is a multicultural city with many different cultures represented (especially of Asian descent).

 

Are these impressions likely to change?

Leeds will only get stronger as a city. The infrastructure and enthusiasm are in place -- it is a dynamic city!

 

What is the local language?

English, however a range of Asian languages are routinely spoken.
