The immigration inspection station at Shanghai Pudong International Airport has expanded its self-service entry inspection channels to include foreigners holding electronic passports and residence permits valid for six months or longer. The new service was introduced in August to facilitate a quicker and more streamlined arrival for foreigners residing in Shanghai.
The registration process is as follows:
- First-time users must register their passport and enter their biometric fingerprints and facial image into the immigration computer system when entering China by air. This process can be completed at the immigration inspection station at the airport on arrival.
- Once registered, travelers can approach any one of the 27 electronic channels, each of which has two gates.
- The passport should be scanned at the first gate; the second gate will open upon electronic biometric fingerprint and facial recognition.
