Over the past year, Indonesia has automated some of its immigration processes to an online system. All immigration offices are now connected to the system, which includes data for Tourist Visa and Visa on Arrival (VOA) applications.
Since the change, we’ve seen a number of issues arise for assignees who have obtained a Business Visa before their KITAS (work/residence permit). If the Immigration Officer notes that the individual has a Business Visa, they will insist it is cancelled before the KITAS is issued. This means the assignee must leave Indonesia and wait until their Telex Visa is ready in their home country before they can return (approximately 14 days).
