Singapore - ICA introduces new BioScreen System

To enhance safety and security, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) launched a new BioScreen System to capture travelers’ thumbprints and strengthen the process of indent verification at both arrival and departure. This policy took effect on April 20, 2016.

Highlights include:

  1. The system is mandatory for all travelers aged six and over who use the manual immigration clearance lane.
  2. It also applies to Singapore citizens and residents who use the manual counters, instead of the enhanced Immigration Automated Clearance System (eIACS) and automated clearance lanes.
  3. ICA has begun to introduce the system progressively at the passenger halls of the sea, land and air checkpoints.
  4. The policy will be implemented at a later date for those traveling by motorcycles, cars and lorries.
  5. It may take travelers longer to clear immigration controls.
