What are the items that I should bring with me because they’re not available (or are too expensive) where I am going?

Almost all daily items and food stuffs can be purchased in shops. The majority of items may be based on the Finnish tastes, but many international products can be found in bigger supermarkets. In general, no problems with availability.

Will anyone have particular trouble finding clothes that fit?

There are lots of international brands and stores to choose from, so it shouldn’t be much of an issue. Model ranges can differ from other countries.

What grocery stores do expats in your city shop at?

There is an abundance of grocery stores in Helsinki and big shopping malls outside Helsinki city area in Vantaa and Espoo. These malls generally offer free parking.

What are factors that might affect my shopping habits in this country/city?

Customers generally need to pay for shopping bags.

Alcohol is sold in stores between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. only. Wine and spirits are only available in “Alko” stores. Cigarettes are not displayed in stores, so you will need to ask the personnel to give cigarettes over the counter.
