Macau

Money-centric Macau is a tax haven for the rich, the gambling mecca of the East and free port of the world.

It is one of China’s two ‘Special Administrative Regions’ (the other being Hong Kong), comprising the peninsula of Macau and two small islands, Taipa and Coloane. Macau was handed back to China by Portugal in 1999. The Portuguese influence is strikingly evident in the city’s breathtaking and colorful aspect. Although regularly swamped with tourists from mainland China and elsewhere, Macau offers an alternative, slower paced and more affordable life than that of neighboring Hong Kong.
