How close-knit is the expat community in this area? How do I get involved with it?
Expats tend to live in a certain district of Xiamen. The expat community is not very large. The Philippines and Singapore Consulates are the only consulates that organize occasional functions and activities. Many westernized restaurants and bars in the city, though, have regular events for newcomers.

Beside expat groups, what is the best way to make social connections outside of work?
Bars, hotels, restaurants -- especially those run by foreigners -- are the favorite meeting places for expats after work.

Where can I meet other singles in this city?
You can meet others at places ranging from tea houses to some clubs and bars. Lodging places are concentrated in Zhongshan Road, Siming Road, Wenzao and Gulangyu lslet. There are also a few bowling houses available in the city.

Are there any unique networking opportunities for accompanying partners?
There are few in the Xiamen city. However, there are a lot of tourist attractions, such as Liutoushan (Bull Head Hill) Park, Bridge Museum, Haicang Suspension Bridge, Xiamen Science &Technology Museum for Children and Teenagers, Huoshaoyu Islet ecological park, Haicang Wild-life Zoo, Qingjiao Ciji Palace, for you and your family to enjoy.
