As a foreign resident, what is my status in your country?
Foreigners seeking to enter Ghana must have a valid passport and valid visa. You are also required to have a yellow fever vaccination certificate with you. Immigration does not ask for this every time but it will cause a problem if they do and you are unable to produce one.
What kinds of visas are available?
Single Entry Visa: This is issued at any Ghanaian embassy abroad and is approximately US$60. It takes about 10 working days to be issued and is valid for up to 90 days from date of issue.
You can request express service on the issuance of this visa and get it done in five working days instead. The cost will increase to US$100.
Multiple Entry Visa: Also issued at any Ghanaian embassy and will cost US$100. It takes approximately 10 working days to process and is valid for 365 days, allowing you to go in and out of the country.
The processing time for this visa can be reduced to five working days by requesting the express service at an increased cost of US$200.
Work Permit: Work permits are renewable every two years and are not so easily obtained. You will be required to provide a job letter from the employer, the company’s registration documents, a resume, address of the employer, four passport-size photographs, copy of your passport, and a list of all the directors of the hiring company.
What is required to obtain these visas?

Are spouses permitted and/or likely to find work?
It depends totally on the individual. They are permitted to work, but finding work is very difficult, especially for women.
What are the main forms of identification and how does a newcomer obtain them?
ID cards are used to verify identity, but are only issued to permanent residents of Ghana. Passports are accepted throughout, so an ID card is not always necessary. Driver’s licenses are also accepted at all major banks as proof of Identity.
Are there any other important permits I must obtain, or places where I must register right away?
No, just a driver’s license that allows you to drive in Ghana. The local authorities accept most foreign driver’s licenses.
What items should I avoid bringing into the country?
Do not attempt to import items such as weapons and drugs.
Is there anything else I should know about entering and remaining in the country legally?
