While expatriates may not necessarily live in those communities, you are likely to find them grocery shopping, dining, and enjoying the entertainment these quartiers provide. Expatriates are more likely to live within the center of the city close to all amenities as well as their work. You can get involved by simply getting out there, and joining in cultural festivities and celebrations. Remember, Montreal is the city of festivals -- it should be no trouble finding activities that appeal to you.
There are a number of cultural associations located in and around Montreal. There are also many sports clubs you can join to meet people; popular genres include: golf, rugby and hockey. The community in which you choose to reside may have its own community social club that gathers on a regular basis for meetings, events, outings and even neighborhood festivals.
Some of the best places include art centers, bars, comedy clubs, dance clubs, community and ethnic dances, film festivals, music halls and concerts, piano lounges /bars, sporting events, festivals, museums and amusement parks. Also, you might meet others at places you would least expect – such as shopping centers, Public Libraries and even on your commute to work!
There is also a wide array of nightclubs in the downtown area. Montreal has acquired the enviable reputation for its late hour’s night life! St. Laurent Street and St. Catherine Street, Crescent Street and St-Denis are known for their bars, nightclubs, theatres, cafes and restaurants. In addition, when the nightclubs close their doors at 3:00 AM there are after-hours clubs where the music never stops!
Additionally, there are numerous dating services and social clubs available for singles. You can find them in local newspapers (in the classified section), television and radio advertisements and online.
Every district in and around Montreal has social programs within its own community. You can easily find organized sports such as ice hockey, baseball, soccer, swimming, alongside activities such as arts, dancing and cooking, to mention a few. Most of these are offered to the community free of charge and are easy to join.
