What are the items that I should bring with me because they’re not available (or are too expensive) where I am going?
You can get most general items cheaply in Myanmar. However, things like books, CDs and DVDs will be limited in selection.
Will anyone have particular trouble finding clothes that fit?
Choices are limited, compared to large international cities. Therefore, non-standard sizes may be hard to find.
What grocery stores do expats in your city shop at?
Some supermarkets are available, such as Citimart. Most of the hotels also have delis, where you can find great meat, cheeses, cakes, etc. In addition, some of the expat compounds have general stores that sell foreign goods.
Where can other household items (such as cleaning materials and home furnishings) be found?
Yangon also has some special markets and shopping malls that sell a large selection of goods.
What are factors that might affect my shopping habits in this country/city?
The variety and choices will be limited. Most expats look forward to a quick break in neighboring Singapore or Bangkok to stock up on their favorite items that are not available locally.
Expats also enjoy shopping for antiques, handicrafts, textiles, jewelry and teak furniture in Myanmar. These items are an incredible value.
