What are the items that I should bring with me because they’re not available (or are too expensive) where I am going?
Nothing special comes to mind. In Dubai, there are international food companies, furniture and white goods stores and pharmacies all selling a wide variety of items at competitive prices.
Will anyone have particular trouble finding clothes that fit?
There are retail outlets in Dubai to suit most shapes, sizes and pockets. In addition, there are local tailors who will make virtually anything at a reasonable cost.
What grocery stores do expats in your city shop at?
Expats in Dubai generally shop at Choithrams, Spinneys, Carrefour or the local co-op.
Where can other household items (such as cleaning materials and home furnishings) be found?
IKEA, Home Centre, The One and Carrefour are some of the larger outlets.
What are factors that might affect my shopping habits in this country/city?
Stores in Dubai are generally open for longer hours than in other countries. Many are open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with the exception of Fridays when they may be open from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Please note that smaller shops, especially in the souqs (markets) may keep to the old tradition of closing from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a siesta.
