What are the items that I should bring with me because they’re not available (or are too expensive) where I am going?
Generally everything is available in Bahrain. Prices are expected to be a little higher than what you would pay in your home country but it is not significant. Food (including fruit and vegetables) is imported from the UK, Europe, USA, Australia, New Zealand, India and many other countries. There is a wide selection of clothing stores, both local labels and international, which are fully up to date with all the latest fashions. Kitchenware, linens, appliances, electrical items, tools and furniture are all readily available.
Will anyone have particular trouble finding clothes that fit?
No. All sizes are available.
What grocery stores do expats in your city shop at?
There is a variety of supermarkets (Alosra, Jawad, Al Jazira, Geant, Carrefour and Lulu), which stock mostly western food. Even the local supermarkets stock a large variety of international foods, as most food products in Bahrain are imported.
Where can other household items (such as cleaning materials and home furnishings) be found?
In the last two or three years, two large superstores have opened that stock a large selection of household items: Geant and Giant. Cleaning materials can also be purchased at supermarkets. There are a number of home furnishing stores as well. The most popular among expats is the Home Centre in the Marina Mall; additionally, on Sheikh Salman Highway there is a large variety of furniture stores offering furnishings in many different styles. A large amount of furniture is imported from Southeast Asia and India.
What are factors that might affect my shopping habits in this country/city?
Shopping in Bahrain will be as easy as anywhere else in the world, if not easier.
