What is the best way to exchange currency?
The best place to exchange currency is at foreign exchange offices, which are open all week.
What are commonly-used forms of payment for everyday purchases (such as groceries)?
Commonly used forms of payment include cash, CB (Carte Bleue ) debit cards and major credit cards. Checks are accepted by most stores with proof of identity.
Will I be able to use my credit card around town? If not, list when I’ll need cash.
Most shops and restaurants accept credit cards. In some shops, however, purchases under 15 € must be made in cash. ATM machines are readily available if cash is needed.
By what method are bills (such as rent and utilities) paid?
Scheduled, automatic withdrawals from your bank account are a very common way to pay monthly bills, such as rent and utilities. Easy to set up by sending one's account information or RIB (Relevé

What are the requirements for opening a bank account? At what stage of the settling-in process should I open it?
In order to open a bank account, you must show:
- Proof of identity
- Proof of address or justificatifs de domicile (copy of a lease and/or utilities bill)
- Proof of income (work contract and/or salary slips)
Will foreign residents be able to find banking services in their native languages?
Yes, usually banking information is given at least in English, in addition to French. Several French banks, such as CIC/Banque Transatlantique, have branches around the world and are more likely to provide information in foreign languages. For more information, contact Crown Paris.
Are there any restrictions on services for those who are new to your country?
If the necessary documents are provided, there should be no restrictions.
What are typical banking hours?
Typical banking hours are from Monday to Friday, but opening hours vary according to the branch.
Some banks close for lunch and stay open till 6:00 pm. Others are open throughout the day, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Are automatic teller machines (ATMs) available around the clock?
Yes, they are found everywhere.
Is there any other money information that might help me?
The most common credit card used is the Carte Bleue, which is a debit card directly linked to your bank account. The card bears the name of your bank. You can request immediate debit or delayed debit (débit différé) at the end each month. This card is accepted everywhere, even for small amounts, except in places where minimum debit has to be 15 €.
