Japan’s consumption tax increases from April 1, 2014

Effective as of April 1, 2014, the consumption tax in Japan has risen by 3% to 8% on all goods and services billed in Japan. Gas, water, electricity, postage, parking lots (but not apartments or houses), subway fares and consumer goods have all seen increases due to the tax rise.
Vending machine ticket prices have been raised, and rounded up to the nearest Y10. Stored-value cards will be rounded up to the next Y1.
