What is the best way to locate a suitable health care provider?
You can visit and check out the facilities at the private clinics and hospitals as well as the government hospitals. You will also find listings in the Yellow Pages. Popular private clinics include: Doha Clinic Hospital, American Hospital and Polyclinic. Government clinics include: Hamad Hospital and Rumeilah Hospital. Government health centers can be found in each district and have a distinct green hexagonal “lollipop” sign. Your choice of health center depends on the district you reside in.

Do expats in the area tend to leave the city/area/country to seek medical care? If so, why and where do they go?
Medical care is of a high standard and there is no need to go elsewhere. For pregnant women, check-ups and prenatal care are no problem, but post-natal care is unfortunately minimal. Most expat women prefer to do their delivery at a private hospital where husbands are allowed to be present during delivery and the after-care is better than at the government hospital.
