2020 Resolutions: New Year, New Home, New You

If you are relocating to a new country, you’re already on the road to making a fresh start for the coming year. Now would be the perfect time to keep that momentum going and make a few more goals for a more amazing you in 2020! Here are a few New Year’s resolutions you can challenge yourself to take on on your way to your new home:

Think Minimalist

Decluttering your life physically declutters your mind.  Being minimalistic comes with having less decisions to make, being clear of what’s important and being able to give more attention to those things. When you free up time and space, you naturally become less stressed and more focused.

For your upcoming move, properly evaluate if you really need the items you have. If you haven’t used it in the past 6 months, you are probably never going to use it. With less belongings to move to your new home, you will even get to save money on your shipping cost.

Buy Less, Save More

Try not to give in to the temptation of buying something you don’t need. We all have those impulsive moments when we really think we need something and before you know it, those things end up in our storeroom untouched.

Once you’re at your new home, be more aware of the purchases you are making. Before buying it, ask yourself, “Am I being impulsive? Do I really need this?”

Go Green

Save the planet! There are simple changes you can make to reduce your carbon footprint and help the environment. Bringing your own shopping bags, eating less meat, using your own water bottle or carpooling whenever possible are just some of the things you can do to make a difference in the world.

For your upcoming move, try to use boxes that you already have at home to pack your belongings. You can also ask your neighbours, family or friends if they have extra carton boxes which you can put to good use. Once you have identified things you do not need anymore, make sure to donate items that are still functional and in good condition to welfare homes or orphanages instead of throwing them away.

Do Good

Volunteering comes with an endless list of benefits. While giving back to the community and people in need, you may also expand your network, boost your social skills, keep you mentally stimulated and many more.
When you’re settled at your new home, look out for CSR activities in your community and make an effort to participate. Not only will you be doing something good for others, you can also connect with like-minded people while improving your physical and mental health.

Keeping up with resolutions can be intimidating when you look at the long-term goal. Think baby steps! Make tangible micro milestones and slowly work your way to the end goal so that it becomes a sustainable process. Just keep in mind that resolutions have to come from a place of self-love (and not because you are not good enough) and you’re off to a positive start!
