Christmas celebration in Malaysia
December 19, 2017
The countdown to Christmas is underway. Last month there were fairs, festivals and bazaars around town, providing plenty of opportunity for some early preparation. If you have missed the fairs, don’t fret as we can help you get your shopping done: head to the major shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur and Penang – Sunway Pyramid, Pavilion, KLCC, One Utama, Gardens, Mid Valley and Gurney Plaza – all of which have plenty of jewellery, fashion accessories, food, homeware and Christmas decorations. Now all that’s left to do is finish buying all those gifts!
People celebrate Christmas a little differently in Malaysia. They will spring-clean the house, decorate their homes with Christmas decorations and bake Christmas cookies and cakes. On Christmas Eve, all family members will gather together for dinner and the countdown to Christmas Day. They will unwrap gifts when the clock strikes 12, and you may even hear fire crackers around the neighbourhood.
If you are planning to get away for this long holiday, do plan in advance as it is usually difficult to book plane tickets, bus tickets or accommodation during peak festive seasons.
