Relocating is one of the biggest decisions and stressful situations you will ever have  in your life and there are many factors to consider to ensure the process is a good experience. Without cautious planning a relocation can turn in to a nightmare. To help you have a smooth transition, here are some of the mistakes we have detected during our 50 years of experience working with expats. Usual mistakes expats make when moving overseas

Take time to research
Research is the most important piece in any move. It’s essential for you to know everything well in advance. Some Important aspects you should look into include:
Make a price list and a budget, including for example: how much will flights cost, how much will transportation cost?
One tip, you will most likely need to have over 12 months’ worth of savings, as well as some emergency funds in case any unexpected costs crop up.

Move your household goods
Start looking into international moving companies as soon as possible. It’s important to be aware of how everything works with these companies, so that when it comes the moving day you are completely prepared.
What things can you take with you? Some countries ban some items being brought in such as alcohol and food. Make sure you know which things you are allow to take.

Are you going to take your pets with you? Book an appointment with the vet and note what vaccines or medical documents your pet will need.

What are the best places to live in, will you  rent or buy and is the area practical for you?
Research the property market to get an idea of what’s available and the price ranges. If you have the chance, go and visit  your new area before moving so that you can get a real idea of where you want to live and what you can afford.
