As the only international relocation company based in Turkey, Crown Relocations is in a unique position to guide you through the international moving process. Crown Turkey’s Country Manager, Jason Evans, shares 5 things you need to know for your international move:

  1. To move your Household Goods duty-free into Turkey, non-Turkish expats need both a work permit and a notarised lease contract for a minimum of two years. Lease contracts in Turkey are typically for one year so make sure to specify that you need a two year lease contract during negotiations. It is wise to include a break clause in case you want to move out earlier.
Crown Relocations Turkey has specialist in-house teams that manage immigration and all destination settling-in services as well as international moving services for a smooth relocation.

  2. Turkish Nationals moving their Household Goods to Turkey need to make sure to visit their local Turkish Consulate before they return to obtain a change of residence certificate  (İkametgah Nakil Belgesi)

  3. Should I take my white goods and electronic appliances?  This is a very common question when moving internationally.  There are 3 main factors which will influence your decision for your move to Turkey:

Duties and taxes: You are entitled to bring a ‘realistic amount’ of used electronic and electrical items for personal use inside your Household Good Shipment without paying custom duties. If you bring electronic media devices (TV, DVD player etc), then you’ll need to pay a non-refundable banderol tax. However, this shouldn’t be more than 50 USD in total for all your devices.

Plugs and Voltage: Turkey operates on 220 volts, 50 Hz, with round-prong European-style plugs that fit into recessed wall sockets /points. Once you’ve checked that your appliances are compatible with the voltage in Turkey, travel adaptors are widely available or bring along multi socket extension leads with you so that you only need to change one plug!

What is included in the property? What is available in Turkey? White goods are not included as standard in rented accommodation in Turkey. In newer properties, it is more likely that a fridge, cooker top and oven will be included, and you may be able to negotiate for the landlord to include more. New Consumer electronics are widely available In Turkey. However, you may find that the latest models that you’d find in North America or Asia  are not yet  available.

  4. Never include Alcohol or Tobacco in your Household Goods shipment to Turkey.

  5. Customs Clearance for your Household Goods takes on average 5-7 working days. You don’t attend the customs inspection yourself. However, you will need to be physically in Turkey and Crown Relocations will need your original passport during customs clearance.
