From November 1, 2017, Philippine nationals will be visa exempt for up to 14 days when travelling to Taiwan, provided they meet the criteria.

The change

Taiwan has implemented a trial allowing Philippine nationals to travel visa-free for stays of up to 14 days in Taiwan for the purposes of tourism, business, visiting relatives or attending events. This trial is due to run until July 31, 2018 and forms part of Taiwan’s strategy of strengthening economic relationships with South and Southeast Asian countries.

For stays of more than 14 days or for purposes not included above (such as work), Philippine nationals will still need to apply for the relevant visa before entering Taiwan.

Qualifying criteria

Visitors must:

  • hold a valid, ordinary Philippine passport,
  • have proof of return or onward tickets,
  • have no criminal record in Taiwan, and
  • have proof of accommodation such as a hotel booking or host contact details.

Key Considerations

  • Unused e-visas and consular visas for Taiwan will still be valid for use by Philippine nationals from November 1, 2017.
  • Unused Travel Authorization Certificates (TACs) will no longer be valid from November 1, 2017.
  • Philippine nationals travelling to Taiwan from November 1, 2017 are advised to check whether they meet the qualifying criteria for visa-free entry.
