The supermarket concept is wide spread and almost all international leading brands are easily available. However, the traditional way to shop is by going to the local market where you should be able to find all your necessities.

Will anyone have particular trouble finding clothes that fit?
There are many factory outlets that cater to all segments from the lower end to the higher end. All types of garments are available and apart from factory outlets there are many other excellent shops. Additionally, tailoring your own designs are cheap and there are many dress makers within the city.

What grocery stores do expats in your city shop at?
All residential areas have grocery stores. Some supermarket chains are spread all over the city and provide almost everything that you need. Some expatriates use their domestic staff to do the shopping for them because they know their way around and can bargain better at the local markets. Major supermarkets and departmental stores present in Colombo are-

Apart from the ordinary grocery store these can be found in every supermarket.

What are factors that might affect my shopping habits in this country/city?
You may sometimes not find the brands that you are used to back home. However there are proven alternatives available. Most well-known brands are available in Sri Lanka. Some of the Supermarket branches sell specialty items which might be of some interest to you.
