The expat compounds have all necessary facilities for small children. Outside of the compounds, you will find many playgrounds in the city, though public places to change diapers are hard to find.

Parents are often warned about the use of drugs in school, but it is also a problem on the street. Beer, vodka and cigarettes are cheap and available everywhere in the city. Gangs are also known to be active in the city.

There are many sport clubs and music schools that your kids can join, including the Skriabin, Rachmaninov and Musorski music schools. Local sport complexes include Dinamo and Luzhniki Stadium.
