Having fun doesn’t have to be expensive.  You may have heard that everything is bigger in the Lone Star state of Texas: big hair, big cars, big houses and big charm. DallasThe fourth most populous metropolitan area in the United States is Dallas, Texas, where the motto is “Big Things Happen Here.”

But it doesn't mean you have to spend big money when you go there. Whether you’re new to Dallas or just visiting, exploring the city and discovering the many sights and attractions is half the fun of being in the Big D. And the best part? Many are absolutely free!

With an average of 232 days of sunshine a year, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex offers loads of activities for all. Visit festivals and fairs, celebrate Chinese New Year in the Arts District, and see the Perot Museum’s outdoor plaza, which features a one-acre urban forest where you’ll find native plants and a hands-on musical forest with oversized xylophones and chimes. Among the many hiking and biking trails available, White Rock Lake features a 9.3 mile paved path that is perfect for running and biking and offers picturesque views to enjoy from a picnic blanket.

For the kids, Children’s Medical Center of Dallas has the largest permanent model train display in the country. Fantasy Landing at Kiest Park is a kid- and handicap-friendly playground with customized ramps, pull-tunnels for children in wheelchairs and brightly colored paths to help guide visually impaired children through the play area.

Explore the history of the Old West in museums, remember John F. Kennedy’s presidency at the John F. Kennedy Memorial and Dealey Plaza, visit historical memorials or take in a symphony. Dallas is a BIG sports town, too, with five professional sports teams to cheer on from a local sports bar.
