What are the items that I should bring with me because they’re not available (or are too expensive) where I am going?
Mexico City should have everything you need in a variety of price ranges. Also, you will have your choice of shopping at supermarkets, major malls, boutiques and traditional markets. The only things you might not be able to find are the specialty clothing items that characterize your native country, such as a Kimono for a Japanese native person. At times, you might not be able to get the same kinds of food or spices, but you will find a large variety of gourmet shops and most supermarkets are stuffed with products imported from all around the globe. Since it is prohibited to bring most food items into the country, we recommend that you avoid taking any foods from your country of origin.

Mexico City provides a cosmopolitan shopping experience with shopping options ranging from trinket stores to major malls.

There are numerous general purpose supermarkets to choose from in Mexico City. It won’t be hard to find the supermarkets that are closest to you and best suited for your needs. Two major competitors are Walmart Group and Comercial Mexicana. You will find many of them around; the stores are huge and offer a wide variety of merchandise at low prices.

Three local chains are Superama (Walmart's partner), Soriana and Chedraui which also have a good variety of merchandise. These stores are smaller and they carry a finer selection of everything from wines to imported meats. The prices are a little bit higher but the quality is also higher. They also provide a home delivery service so you can place an order online or by phone.

What are factors that might affect my shopping habits in this country/city?
When you visit a flea market, it is recommended that you leave jewelry and expensive watches at home, and only take the cash you think you will need to make your purchases. Shopping in the Historical Center should be done by, or at least in the company of, seasoned urbanites just as in any other large city in the world.
