Qingdao is not well equipped for raising infants and toddlers. However, the housing areas usually have good playgrounds.

Reliable nannies and child minders usually come from word of mouth. Often child minders are referred from old expats to new. The local expat newsletter is also a good place to advertise for what you need.

Beaches are popular with children who live in Qingdao. There is even a picturesque boardwalk by the sea. Children can ride their bikes along it. In addition, there is a summer amusement park, a new museum and a zoo. The city is also building a new ocean park.

Children can take up martial arts or join in some local activities like the local dance class. Some enjoy swimming at the hotel pools.

Expat teenagers don't have a lot of entertainment options. They will most likely hang out at each other's houses. Although the streets of Qingdao are safe, there is not a lot catering to expats in this age group.
