Surabaya should have most of the things you need at an affordable price, but if you need large-sized shoes, they might be hard to find, especially for women. The largest shoe size is 43 for men and 40 for women.

Some expats might find it hard to get large-sized clothing in Surabaya, although there are a few stores available. You might want to consider bringing extra clothing or have it tailor-made for you at reasonable prices.

Supermarket chains (Giant and Carrefour) are widely available throughout the city. Other stores popular with expats in Surabaya are:

  • LotteMart - Wholesale hypermarket-type shops that offer a large range of cheaper prices for bulk purchases
  • Sinar - Supermarket chain that sells imported goods like condiments, wine, beer, toiletries, varieties of meats and cheeses
  • Papaya - Supermarket chain that sells imported goods, wine and beer and also Japanese goods

Where can other household items (such as cleaning materials and home furnishings) be found?
Cleaning materials can be found at most large supermarkets or other large chains, such as Ace Hardware. Larger items, such as home furnishings, can also be found at Ace Hardware or at specialty stores and shopping malls.
